GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - Zach Borenstein hit a pair of home runs, but the Kernels fell at Wisconsin 6-3 on Thursday night. Borenstein drove in all 3 of the Kernels on the night as he finished the night 3-5 with 2 home runs, a double, and 3 runs batted in.
The Kernels stranded a total of 12 runners on base and dropped their 6th straight ballgame. Ryan Crowley (1-6) struck out a season-high 10 hitters over 7.1 innings but took the loss. He allowed 5 runs on 8 hits while walking 2. Zach Borenstein homered to left field in the 1st inning to give the Kernels an early 1-0 lead. The opposite-field shot was Borenstein's 9th of the season.
Wisconsin erased the lead with three straight 2-out hits in the 2nd inning, going ahead 3-1. Carlos George's RBI double put the Rattlers on the board. Chadwin Stang and Yadiel Rivera followed with RBI singles to put Wisconsin up by 2 runs. Brandon Macias put the Rattlers up 4-1 in the 3rd inning with a solo blast to left field. It was the 8th of the year for Macias and his 4th on the season against Kernels pitching.
Zach Borenstein launched his 2nd home run of the night out to dead-center field to lead off the 6th inning, trimming the Wisconsin lead to 4-2. It was Borenstein's 10th of the season and his 4th on the year in only 8 games against Rattlers pitching. Borenstein's RBI double in the 7th inning cut the Timber Rattlers lead to 4-3. The flare down the left field line scored Kevin Moesquit with 2 outs.
After the Macias home run in the 3rd inning Crowley shut down the Rattlers. He had retired 10 in a row until walking Ben McMahan in the 8th inning. Crowley exited at that point, and Stephen Tromblee was brought out of the bullpen.
Cameron Garfield then crushed a 2-run home run to left field to put Wisconsin up 6-3. It was Garfield's 10th long-ball of the campaign. David Goforth (9-8) started and got the win for the Rattlers, going 6 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6 and walking 2.
