Pheasants CF Reggie Abercrombie drove in three runs, goingn 2-for-4 and pacing Sioux Falls in its 4-2 victory over Lincoln on Tuesday. Abercrombie - who drove in the first run of the contest with a first-inning double - pushed across two in the Pheasants' three-run fifth inning. Starting Sioux Falls pitcher Rod Scurry struck out nine Saltdogs batters while allowing just one run on three hits in the contest. Scurry had just two walks on the night, and his strikeout-to-walk ratio now sits at 71-to-30. Linoln 1B Nate Wilder hit his first homer of the season in the fifth inning, a solo shot that accounted for his only hit of the night. The Saltdogs wouldn't score again until the ninth inning.
St. Paul 9, Rockland 1
Saints DH Willie Cabrera went 3-for-5 and hit his 10th home run of the season to help St. Paul defeat Rockland, 9-1. Cabrera drove in a game-high five runs, including the first two of the game in the first inning. The Saints scored the first eight runs of the game while starting pitcher Luke Anderson was controlling the game from the mound. Anderson allowed just one run on three hits in six innings of work while striking out two Boulders batters. The Boulders' lone run came in the fifth inning when an Anderson wild pitch allowed Rockland CF Qualon Millender to score from third. Millender went 1-for-1 on the night with two walks.
Sioux City 3, Kansas City 2
With the score tied, 2-2, entering the bottom of the ninth inning, Sioux City sent DH Adrian Martinez to the plate already with an RBI to his credit. And five pitches later, the 6-foot-3 righty doubled that total with his second home run of the year, a walkoff shot that gave the Explorers a 3-2 victory over Kansas City. The T-Bones jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning when 2B Adam De La Garza picked up one of his game-high three hits to drive in a pair of his teammates. But from that point on, Sioux City pitchers allowed only seven hits, allowing the Explorers offense to rally. The X's plated one run in both the third and fourth innings, trying the score and setting the stage for Martinez' ninth-inning heroics.
Fargo-Moorhead 6, Grand Prairie 4
The AirHogs scored one run in four of the final five innings, but it wasn't enough to prevent the visiting RedHawks from taking a 6-4 victory. Fargo-Moorhead got home runs from 3B Eric Campbell and 2B Carlo Cota, two run shots in the third and eighth innings, respectively. Campbell scored twice to lead all players in runs scored while his two RBI were good for a three-way tie atop the stat sheet. Campbell was also one of just three hitters with multiple base knocks. AirHogs DH Trent Lockwood hit his 15th blast of the season, a solo shot to lead off the seventh inning. The long ball was one of three extra-base hits for Grand Prairie on the evening, but it wasn't enough to give the home team the victory.
Winnipeg 7, Gary SouthShore 2
The Goldeyes scored five runs in the first two innings and led the whole way against Gary SouthShore, eventually earning a 7-2 victory. Winnipeg DH Barbaro Canizares had a huge night at the plate, driving in five runs while going 4-for-5 in his first game with the Goldeyes. Canizares was one of four Winnipeg players with multiple hits while DH Zac Mitchell was the only RailCat with more than one base knock. Mitchell went 2-for-4 and brought his season average up to .274. Starting Goldeyes pitcher Andrew Walker earned his eighth win, throwing 6.2 innings while allowing two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Wichita 16, El Paso 11
In a game that fell just 15 minutes shy of four hours, the Wingnuts of Wichita defeated the homestanding Diablos, 16-11. El Paso scored the first four runs of the game and led, 7-4, after two innings. But behind a lineup full of hot bats, Wichita rallied and led by as many as six runs en route to victory. Diablos DH John Rodriguez was one of a trio of El Paso batsmen with three hits, going 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI. The long ball was Rodriguez' 14th of the season. The Diablos weren't lacking in impressive offensive performances either, as six different El Paso batters had multiple hits. Diablos CF Mitch Einertson went 3-for-5, scored twice and drove in three runs.
Laredo 7, Amarillo 6 (16 innings)
Lemurs 2B Anthony Scelfo struck out four times Tuesday night - and Wednesday morning - against Amarillo hurlers. But with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 16th inning, Scelfo made up for his earlier troubles at the plate with a walkoff single that brought home 1B Javier Brito and gave the Lemurs a 7-6, 16-inning victory. Laredo had led for less than one inning prior the game's final play, as the Sox held control for much of what was scheduled to be the late innings. But a ninth-inning sacrifice fly from Laredo CF Stephen Douglas pushed the game into extra innings - seven of them. The Sox plated a run in the top of the 14th when RF Adam Buschini doubled in Garrett Rau. But as was the case for the rest of the night, the home club had an answer in the bottom of the frame. This answer came in the form of a Stephen Pearson sacrifice fly, making way for the Scelfo walkoff single.
