DAVENPORT, Iowa - Quad Cities River Bandits right-hander Tyrell Jenkins struck out seven batters and allowed just one run in five innings to win for the first time in 11 home starts, helping the River Bandits beat the Beloit Snappers for the first time in six games with a 6-4 victory Saturday night in front of 6,888 at Modern Woodmen Park.

Quad Cities (2-6-28 second half, 61-62 overall) broke out against Snappers left-hander Matt Tomshaw (4-3) with two runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth inning to build a 6-1 lead. Beloit scored three runs in the ninth inning against right-hander Dixon Llorens before right-hander Kyle Barraclough earned his second save by striking out third baseman Miguel Sano for the final out.

Jenkins (4-4) issued two of his three walks in the first inning, and the first, drawn by center fielder J.D. Williams, came around to score on a two-out RBI single from first baseman Kennys Vargas. After that hit, Jenkins allowed just four more base runners without one reaching third base. He allowed one run on four hits and went five innings for a third straight start.

Tomshaw gave up only two hits and a walk through his first 4 1/3 innings, but his trouble started when he walked shortstop Matt Williams with one out in the fifth and threw a wild pitch to move Williams to second base. With two outs, Williams left early from second base, and Tomshaw stepped off the pitching rubber to catch Williams at third base, but Sano missed the throw, and Williams came in to score the tying run. Second baseman Luis Mateo followed with a two-out infield single, and center fielder Nick Longmire drove a go-ahead double to right-center field.

In the sixth inning, River Bandits right-hander Yunior Castillo made his pitching debut in the Midwest League after 31 games as an infielder for Quad Cities last season. Castillo allowed one hit in a scoreless inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, third baseman Stephen Piscotty lined a single off the glove of Sano, and designated hitter Anthony Melchionda followed with a single to center field. Then right fielder Anthony Garcia hit a home run to right-center field - his team-high 17th of the season and the River Bandits' league-leading 100th - that made it 5-1. Tomshaw stayed in the game for a single by Williams and a walk to first baseman David Medina before leaving with one out for right-hander Tim Atherton, who walked Mateo and balked in the final run for a 6-1 River Bandits lead. Tomshaw was charged with six runs - four earned - on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

After going scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings against Quad Cities right-hander Ricky Martinez, the Snappers (28-26, 67-57) rallied in the ninth inning against Llorens. Catcher Matt Koch tripled to right-center field and scored on a wild pitch. With two outs, J.D. Williams drew a walk, and second baseman Eddie Rosario hit a two-run home run to right field. Barraclough then came in to face Sano, who went down on strikes for the fourth straight at-bat. Quad Cities pitchers struck out 12 batters.

The River Bandits continue the series with the Snappers Sunday night at 5 p.m., when right-hander Sam Gaviglio (7-8) opposes left-hander David Hurlbut (5-5).
