York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution needed just three runs, scoring all three in the seventh inning to come from behind and beat the Long Island Ducks 3-2 on Saturday night at Bethpage Ballpark. The Revs will go for the series win in Sunday afternoon's finale, before the road trip continues to Somerset on Monday.
Each team has come from behind to win a game in the late innings in the first two games of the series. Tonight, York trailed 1-0 until the seventh before surging in front.
Revs starter Corey Thurman allowed only a leadoff first inning home run to Reid Gorecki in his six innings of work. He scattered nine hits, and worked out of jams on several occasions, time and again making the clutch pitch needed to escape trouble.
The Revs were shut out through six innings by Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann, but loaded the bases with one out in the seventh as Chris Nowak (walk), Michael Hernandez (single), and Travis Scott (walk) all came up with big at-bats, working the count full before reaching. With two outs, Brandon Haveman nailed an RBI single to right tying the score, ending Zimmermann's night. Jeff Fiorentino then greeted reliever Eric Niesen with the eventual game-winning two-run single to left.
Long Island threatened to tie it in the bottom of the ninth. Kraig Binick chopped an RBI single up the middle cutting York's lead to one, before taking second on an error to put the tying run in scoring position. But Revs closer Ricardo Gomez came back to retire Dan Lyons on a fly out to center for the second out, and after walking Gorecki, retired Bryant Nelson on a game-ending fielder's choice at second for his eighth save.
Thurman (11-3) retook sole possession of the league-lead in wins, while earning the 49th victory of his Revs career. It was also his 13th consecutive win on the road dating to August, 2010.
Zimmermann (5-6) suffered the loss, charged with three runs in 6.2 innings after taking a shutout into the seventh.
