Lancaster put runs on the board first for the second night in a row in the top of the first off starter Jeff Farnsworth (1-1). With one out and the bases empty, Gilberto Mejia slapped a single into left. The second baseman stole second and third to put himself in scoring position before Tommy Everidge walked putting runners on the corners with two outs. Fehlandt Lentini singled in the runner from third to give Lancaster a 1-0 lead, and one batter later, Ryan Harvey took Farnsworth over the left-field wall for his 14th homer of the season. The three-run dinger put the Barnstormers on top 4-0.
In the second, Lancaster struck again after an error by Iggy Suarez on a grounder from Adam Godwin. The center fielder stole second and came home after a double play groundout from Blake Gailen, 5-0.
The Barnstormers made the lead 6-0 in the third when Lentini led the inning off with a walk and stole second to get in scoring position. Three batteres later with Lentini on third, Kody Kirkland knocked him in with a single into right.
Sugar Land's bats woke up in the bottom of the third when they plated five runs off four hits against Alan Johnson (10-5). Amadeo Zazueta recorded a single up the middle to get things started and was quickly pushed to second when Octavio Martinez was hit by a pitch. With runners on first and second, Dionys Cesar knocked in his first run with his first hit since joining the Skeeters with a single into center. Two batters later, Bubba Bell brought in a run with an RBI single before Josh Pressley stepped in to bat. After fighting off the first few pitches, the designated-hitter brought the Skeeters to within one run with a three-run shot (14), his second in as many nights, into left-center field, 6-5.
Farnsworth was pulled in the third for Pedro Liriano, and the Barnstormers scored one run off the righty off a one-out double from Kirkland to push the lead back to two, 7-5.
Mark Brackman relieved Johnson after five innings and pitched two hitless frames while Saul Rivera replaced Liriano after two and a third giving up just a solo home run (2) to Godwin to increase the lead to three, 8-5, for the Barnstormers in the eighth.
