TACOMA, Wash. -- Carlos Peguero and Nick Franklin each hit home runs for Tacoma in the Rainiers 5-3 loss to the New Orleans Zephyrs at Cheney Stadium on Wednesday.

Peguero delivered a two-run home run with two outs in the first inning - his team-leading 19th of the season - to give Tacoma an early 2-0 edge. The shortstop Franklin hit his fifth homer with the Rainiers in the bottom of the eighth - a solo shot that cut a 5-2 Tacoma deficit down to two runs.

New Orleans relied on the long ball to top Tacoma in the series finale between the two clubs. Outfielder Chris Coghlan hit a go-ahead three-run home run with two outs in the third that gave the Zephyrs a 3-2 edge. Catcher Luke Montz stretched the lead to 5-2 with a two-run home run in the top of the eighth.

The Rainiers lineup was limited to just four hits, with designated hitter Luis Jimenez and catcher Brandon Bantz joining Franklin and Peguero as the only Tacoma batters to tally hits on Wednesday.

Starter Hector Noesi (0-4) was dealt the loss after surrendering three runs on six hits over 7.0 innings, while walking three and fanning six.

Left-handed reliever Charlie Furbush, in the third appearance of his Major League rehab assignment with the Rainiers, allowed two runs on two hits over 1.0 inning of work in the eighth. Left-hander Bobby LaFromboise struck out two through 1.0 shutout frame in the ninth.

The Rainiers (50-69) enjoy a scheduled league off day tomorrow before heading to Memphis to begin a series with the Redbirds on Friday, August 10. Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (4-2, 3.60) is slated to start for Tacoma in the first game of the four-game set against left-hander Tyler Lyons (1-7, 4.83) for Memphis. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
