Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Connecticut Tigers jumped ahead early and didn't look back in a 9-3 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters on Sunday.

Connecticut took the lead in the first inning off of Williamsport starter Josh Warner. A Tyler Hanover RBI-double and a two-run blast by Zach Kirksey off the top of the scoreboard gave the Tigers an early 3-0 lead.

The Tigers then put the game in the hands of starter Endrys Briceno, who shut down the Cutters order. Briceno retired 17 Crosscutters in a row from the first to the sixth inning.

Meanwhile, the Tigers kept building their lead, scoring a run in the fourth and plating four in the sixth inning. Kirksey hit his second home run of the game to lead off, the Jordan Dean followed with an RBI-single before Jake Stewart capped it with a two-run base hit.

The Cutters did finally get to Briceno in the seventh. With the bases loaded, Yan Carlos Olmo hit into a fielder's choice to score the first Williamsport run of the game. Logan Moore then followed with a line-drive RBI-single and Gustavo Gonzalez finished the scoring with a sac fly to right field.

But the Cutters were simply in too big of a hole as Connecticut beat Williamsport 9-3 to give the Cutters their third straight loss.

Williamsport tries to avoid the sweep to the Tigers Monday at 7:05. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
