WILLIAMSPORT, PA-RHP Endrys Briceno (4-3) pitched 6.1 innings in his longest outing of the season and DH Zack Kirksey (2-5) hit two home runs and drove in three runs for a 9-3 win for the Connecticut Tigers (20-26) over the Williamsport Crosscutters (15-32) at Bowman Field Sunday night.
Briceno did not surrender a run until the seventh inning and retired 17 in a row for Connecticut. Sunday's effort was the first multi-home run game for Kirksey.
The Tigers scored three runs in the first inning. CF Jake Stewart (2-5) singled, stole second base and went to third base on a throwing error by Williamsport C Logan Moore. 3B Tyler Hanover (1-5) hit a double to score Stewart for a 1-0 lead.
Kirksey hit a two-run home run off the scoreboard in right center field for a 3-0 lead.
The Tigers plated a run in the fourth inning. 2B Jordan Dean (1-2) walked and stole second base. C Bennett Pickar (1-3) reached on a fielder's choice and Dean moved to third base. SS Luis Cortez (2-4) singled to left field to score Dean for a 4-0 lead.
Kirksey led off the sixth inning with a solo home run. 1B Edgar Corcino (2-5) tripled and scored on a single by Dean. Pickar reached base with a walk and both men scored on a two-run single by Stewart for an 8-0 lead.
The Crosscutters scored three runs in the seventh inning and the Tigers added a run on a wild pitch by Williamsport RHP Ramon Olviedo in the eighth inning.
The Tigers and Crosscutters finish their series on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Charlie Gillies (0-3, 3.66) gets the start for the Tigers against LHP Delvin Perez (2-3, 3.67) for Williamsport. Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and online at www.cttigers.com.
The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League.
