Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - A former Altoona Curve and current Pittsburgh Pirates' outfielder with a famous last name will get treated like a "King" with a figurine giveaway on Friday.

The Alex "Not Elvis" Presley Figurine Giveaway is scheduled to be handed out that night at Peoples Natural Gas Field in Altoona to the first 1,000 fans through the gates, which open at 6 p.m. for the game between the Curve and New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The contest between the Pirates' and Blue Jays' affiliates will begin at 7 p.m. and is the second game of four scheduled for this weekend.

The figurine is a salute to the question that the outfielder gets anywhere he goes: "Are you related to Elvis Presley - . The answer is no, but Alex has had fun with it in the past, including a now-dormant Twitter handle "@AlexNotElvis". Fans will notice the depiction on the figurine has Presley in an Elvis-style Curve "uniform suit" complete with gold sequins, a wide shirt collar, bell-bottom pant legs, low boot-style shoes, and a cardinal red scarf.

"You know you've made it when one of the minor league clubs you played for puts together a unique giveaway item in your honor," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "With Alex's famous last name, his getting the question all the time, and Elvis' persona being completely different than Alex's, we thought that made this idea for a giveaway completely absurd in a fun way. This is type of figurine fans will look at on their desk, bookshelf, or mantle and have no choice but to smile."

The item is being sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association and Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program. Fans are also encouraged to bring canned food items as the MDA will collect donations for the American Rescue Workers Hollidaysburg Food Pantry at the game. Game attendees who donate a canned food item will receive a miniature cow keychain as a thank you from local dairy farmers.

All guests are invited to stop by the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association and Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program booth to register for the "Your Milk Comes from a Good Place" prize pack, consisting of four tickets to a future Altoona Curve game, a gift card for concessions and various "got milk?©" items. The team is also offering a shirt signed by all team members as a special offer for the grand prize.

The series between the Curve and Fisher Cats will start on Thursday at 7 p.m. with a meet and greet with two-time Cy Young Award winner Denny McLain, who was the last Major League pitcher to win 30+ games in one season. The 1968 American League MVP won 31 games during the 1968 season as a member of the World Champion Detroit Tigers. He'll be on hand at the ballpark to sign autographs and also have copies of his new book for sale. His appearance comes on another Thirsty ThusdayTM thanks to Rocky 104.9 with $2 16oz. Miller Lite drafts on special along with half-priced 22oz. regular sodas.

Fireworks are on the schedule following Saturday night's 7 p.m. game with the Fisher Cats and it will be the first of back-to-back fireworks nights at the ballpark. Saturday night also serves as another Curve, Pa. Blue Out Saturday to raise awareness and funds for Prevent Child Abuse, PA.

A T.G.I. Friday's Mug Club Night will come to fruition on both Friday and Saturday during the upcoming homestand. The first 250 fans 21 and up that exit the park on Friday and Saturday will get a TGI Friday's Mug as they exit. Following the games, two Curve players will be at the T.G.I. Friday's on Plank Road for a one hour meet-and-greet session.

Sunday night's 6 p.m. game will see the timeless tradition of Sunday Night Fireworks return this week thanks to Conemaugh Health System. It'll be Cambria County Night at the park during the game while some fans can come down pregame and partake in our Princess and Pirate Party presented by the Children's Miracle Network and Sheetz. As with every Sunday home game, fans will be able to head down to the field from 5-5:20 p.m. and take part in a pregame catch on the field.
