Large Crowd Sees Big Rock Cats Win

New Britain Rock Cats News Release


New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats beat the Binghamton Mets 11-2 Wednesday afternoon in front of a capacity crowd of 7,168 at New Britain Stadium. The Rock Cats scored 11 runs on a season-high 18 hits in the victory. New Britain scored two runs with two outs in the first two innings off Mets prospect Zack Wheeler who was tagged with his 6 th loss. DH Aaron Hicks tied a franchise record with five hits for the Rock Cats. New Britain starter B.J. Hermsen pitched seven innings and earned his 7 th win.

Deibinson Romero began the scoring with a 2-run double in the first innings and OF Oswaldo Arcia ripped a 2-run double in the second innings, giving the Rock Cats a 4-0 lead after two frames. The Mets cut the deficit to 4-2 with two runs off Hermsen in the 4 th . However, New Britain got the two runs back in the 4 th inning and then added two more in the 5 th on a 2-run home run by Hicks.

New Britain scored two runs in the 7 th inning off New York Mets closer Frank Francisco who is with Binghamton on Major League rehab. He allowed two runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout and threw 24 pitches and 14 strikes.

The Rock Cats begin a 7-game road trip Thursday night at Reading, PA (7:05). The broadcast can be heard on www.foxsportsradio1410.com and WMRD AM 1150 and WLIS AM 1420.
