Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Round Rock, TX - Ryan Verdugo tossed six strong innings in his return to the rotation and Wil Myers homered in Omaha's 4-1 decision over Round Rock Monday night in the last of four meetings at the Dell Diamond. The Storm Chasers took three out of four in the set to claim the season series, 13-3, and improve to 61-42 overall.

Brad Nelson, who tied Sunday's game with a two-out home run in the bottom of the ninth, opened the scoring and provided the hosts only dent against Omaha pitching with a lead off long ball in the second, his third of the series and 17th of the season.

The Storm Chasers stranded two runners in the first and another pair in the fifth before finally breaking through in the sixth against Chad Bell on Myers' two-run homer, his 16th at the Triple-A level. The 21-year-old outfielder was mired in a 5-for-36 slump before blasting his 29th round-tripper of the season.

Max Ramirez and Jason Bourgeois opened the seventh inning with back-to-back singles that chased Bell from the hill. The southpaw was charged with four runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out five after Yoshinori Tateyama took over and gave up a sacrifice bunt to Adam Moore that was followed by Irving Falu's two-run double.

Verdugo, making his first start with Omaha since July 5, departed after allowing four hits while walking two and matching a season-high with eight strikeouts to beat the Express for a third time in as many starts. Vin Mazzaro followed with three scoreless frames, yielding two hits, issuing one walk and recording a pair of strikeouts to nail down the second save of his professional career.

The Storm Chasers will send right-hander Jake Odorizzi to the mound Tuesday night in the series opener against New Orleans right-hander Elih Villanueva. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:40 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone Two, The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
