Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Wil Myers was 2-for-4 with a game-winning, two-run homer as the Omaha Storm Chasers defeated the Round Rock Express in Monday night's Pacific Coast League series finale at The Dell Diamond. The Express (42-60) and Storm Chasers (61-42) closed out their season series with Omaha winning 13 of 16 meetings, including five of eight at The Dell Diamond.
Brad Nelson clubbed his team-leading 17th homer to open the bottom of the second inning. It was his sixth homer since the All-Star break, all of which came in the last nine games. However, that was the end of the run production for the Express, who were held to four or fewer runs for the 14th time in their last 15 home games.
Johnny Giavotella pushed his hitting streak to 18 games with a leadoff single in the sixth. Myers followed with his 16th homer, drilling a 1-1 Chad Bell offering into the upper deck of the home run porch in left. Irving Falu capped the scoring with a one-out, two-run double in the seventh.
Omaha starter Ryan Verdugo (7-2) earned the win; he scattered three singles and walked two batters in addition to Nelson's homer over six innings with eight strikeouts. Vin Mazzaro worked three scoreless innings on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts for his second save.
Bell (3-3) shouldered the loss for the Express, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts. He exited the game after surrendering consecutive singles to open the seventh, the first of which ricocheted off Bell's left calf. Yoshinori Tateyama surrendered Falu's two-run double but did not allow a run of his own in two innings. Willie Eyre used a double play to escape a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the ninth.
Nelson was 2-for-4 and 14-for-35 since the All-Star break with six homers, 10 RBI, eight runs scored and 12 walks in 11 games. Luis Martinez was 2-for-3, and Ryan Spilborghs singled and walked. Mitch Moreland was 1-for-3 with a strikeout in his first rehab game with the Express.
Myers, Adam Moore and former Express member Jason Bourgeois all had two-hit nights for the Storm Chasers.
Round Rock begins a four-game series Tuesday against the Albuquerque Isotopes. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT at The Dell Diamond. Rangers right-hander Neftali Feliz (0-1, 5.40 ERA) is scheduled to make his second rehab start with the Express; he is slated to throw no more than 60 pitches or three innings. Left-hander Derrick Loop (9-2, 4.53 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Isotopes.
