Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. -- The Tacoma Rainiers losing skid extended to six games after suffering a 9-1 defeat to Colorado Springs at Security Service Field on Monday in the series finale between the two teams. The loss seals a five-game series sweep for the Sky Sox over the Rainiers.
Tacoma's troubles started in what turned out to be an insurmountable four-run frame by Colorado Springs in the third inning. Outfielder Matt McBride broke open a scoreless game with a one-out, two-run double. Two batters later, third baseman Brendan Harris stretched Tacoma's deficit to 4-0 with another two-run double one out later.
The Sky Sox lead ballooned to 8-0 following a five-run inning in the sixth, capped off by Harris' three-run double with two outs.
The Rainiers were held scoreless until shortstop Nick Franklin drove in outfielder Darren Ford on a single with one out in the top of the eighth inning.
Designated hitter Luis Jimenez's 2-for-4 effort led a Rainiers lineup that combined to collect eight hits on Monday.
Starter Danny Hultzen (1-2) was dealt the loss for Tacoma after surrendering four runs on six hits over 6.0 innings. The left-hander walked four Sky Sox batters and struck out five.
The Rainiers (41-61) open a four-game homestand against the Tucson Padres tomorrow, July 24. Right-hander Hector Noesi (0-1, 15.12) is slated to start for Tacoma in the first game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
