SERIES AT A GLANCE: The Flying Squirrels will aim for their second straight win when they take on the Akron Aeros in game three of a four-game series at The Diamond tonight. Last night, Craig Westcott allowed four hits and two earned runs in seven innings pitched and Tommy Joseph went 3-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Flying Squirres to a 3-2 victory over the Aeros. Richmond center fi elder Gary Brown went 1-for-5 with an RBI single to extend his consecutive on-base streak to 36 games, the third-longest on-base streak in the Eastern League this season. Westcott (9-6) and relievers Tom Vessella and Brett Bochy held Akron's offense in check for the remainder of the ballgame. After Westcott exited the game at the conclusion of the seventh inning, Vessella retired two of the three batters he faced in the eighth inning before giving way to Bochy. The Flying Squirrels' closer tossed an inning and a third of scoreless relief to earn his 11th save of the season. Soto (6-7) took the loss for Akron after allowing six hits and three runs, two of which were earned, in fi ve innings pitched. The Flying Squirrels went 5-6 against Akron in 2011 including a 2-1 mark at The Diamond. Richmond is 11-15 all-time against the Aeros and the club is 4-4 all-time in the River City. The two teams will meet 14 times in 2012, 6 times in Akron and 8 times in Richmond. Following this four-game series, the Flying Squirrels and Aeros will meet again at The Diamond for a four-game series, August 31-September 3.

TODAY'S PITCHERS: RHP Daryl Maday vs. RHP Paolo Espino Maday: Flying Squirrels reliever Daryl Maday will make his second spot start for Richmond in tonight's game. Maday is 3-5 with nine saves and a 3.07 ERA in 32 appearances, including one start, for Richmond. In his last appearance, Maday allowed no hits and no runs along with one strikeout in 1.1 innings pitched against Altoona Monday. He earned his ninth save in Richmond's 5-3 triumph. The former University of Arkansas standout has been a valuable contributor as both a starter and reliever for the Flying Squirrels since the club's inception in 2010. He was the winning pitcher in the club's fi rst home game in 2010 and the winning pitcher in the team's fi rst playoff win last season. He owns a career record of 41-42 with 12 saves and a 3.81 ERA in 160 appear- ances, including 93 starts Espino: Makes his sixteenth appearance and fourteenth start of the season tonight. Espino went 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in two starts with Triple-A Columbus. In 14 appearances, including 12 starts, with Akron, Espino is 4-2 with a 3.55 ERA. The right-hander split the 2011 campaign between the Akron and Columbus. He compiled a combined record of 8-1 with a save and a 2.77 ERA in 34 appearances, including 10 starts. Espino boasts a career record of 41-26 with three saves and a 3.75 ERA in 165 appearances, including 88 starts. He was selected by Cleveland in the 10th round of the 2006 June Draft out of The Pendleton School (FL).

WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU?: Gary Brown continues to produce at the plate. After going 1-for-5 with an RBI single Friday night, Brown, who recently had a team-high 12-game hitting streak, has now hit safely in 30 of his last 32 games. During this stretch, Brown is batting .412 (56-for-136) with four home runs, a triple, 16 doubles, 16 RBIs and 29 runs scored. He has reached base in 36 consecutive games, the longest streak for a Flying Squirrels player in 2012. Additionally, he has raised his overall average from .236 on June 15 to .296 as of today. ROCK, CHALK...: Richmond closer Brett Bochy tossed 1.1 scoreless innings last night to earn his 11th save in 16 chances this season. Bochy is 3-1 with fi ve saves in eight chances and a 1.53 ERA in 14 appearances, spanning 17.2 innings, since June 1. For the season, the former University of Kansas standout is 6-2 with 11 saves and he has limited Eastern League batters to a .154 batting average (22-143). In his last six games, Ciriaco is batting .500 (7-for-14) with a home run, six RBIs and three runs scored.

BIRTHDAY BASH: Richmond catcher Tommy Joseph enjoyed a memorable 21st birthday against Altoona Monday night. Joseph went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and he drove in two of Richmond's runs in the Squirrels 5-3 win. It was the second straight season in which Joseph has celebrated his birthday with a big night at the plate. Last season, he went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and a career-high six RBIs to help lead San Jose, the Giants' Advanced-A affi liate, to a 9-4 victory over the Inland Empire 66ers.
