Erie SeaWolves News Release
The Erie SeaWolves snapped a post All-Star break fall with a 7-2 win over Bowie thanks to strong efforts from Jared Wesson and Nuiman Romero. The 'Wolves' bats woke up early in the first to give Wesson all the support he would need en route to his first AA win since May 16.
Nuiman Romero, who would finish 5-5, started his career night with a double down the first base line and reached third on an error by the right fielder Jai Miller. Brandon Douglas' double was hit in the exact same spot and gave Erie an early 1-0 lead. Jordan Lennerton followed Douglas with a line drive double over the outstretched glove of Josh Barfield to bring Brandon home and extend the Erie lead to two.
The SeaWolves were only halfway done as Erie's third baseman Rawley Bishop would ground out to score Lennerton from third. With the 3-0 lead, Tony Plagman finished the early scoring with a double that brought home Nick Castellanos who was aboard on a double. With the 4-0 lead, Nick Castellanos smashed his sixth homerun of the season off the scoreboard in the bottom of the third to give Jared Wesson all the insurance he needed.
Wesson worked a solid six innings using 90 pitches to grab three strikeouts in his first AA start since being sent down to Lakeland. Wesson was aided by middle infielders Niuman Romero and Brandon Douglas, who also went a combined 8-9 at the plate. Wesson's only hiccup came when he gave up a two run homerun to Jonathan Schoop in the top of the sixth.
Erie added their two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Avisail Garcia and Plagman both singled to put runners on the corners for James McCann who grounded out to score Garcia. Michael Rockett singled to set up the same scenario for Niuman Romero. The shortstop collected his fifth hit of the night to score Plagman, but the inning ended when Rockett was thrown out attempting to advance to third.
Robbie Wienhardt and Bruce Rondon combined to finish the game with 3 shutout innings. The rubber match of the series is Wednesday afternoon at 12:05.
