Papillion, NE - The Iowa Cubs (39-53) overcame an early 7-2 deficit and earned a 12-11 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers (56-36) in a four-hour marathon at Werner Park tonight. The Cubs have won four straight games with all four victories coming by one run. The Cubs lead this series 1-0, but the Storm Chasers hold a 7-6 edge in the season series.

The Cubs grabbed the early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning on RBI singles by Dave Sappelt and Josh Vitters. The hits extended their hitting streaks to 10 and 11 games respectively. Omaha starter Doug Davis finished the inning, but came out after allowing six runs on nine hits over five innings.

In the top of the sixth, Diory Hernandez greeted Doug Sisk with a homer to left that tied the game at seven. It was Hernandez' first home run of the season and snapped a streak of 14 consecutive scoreless innings for Sisk. In the top of the seventh, Sisk issued a leadoff walk to Jackson before turning the ball over to Jeremy Jeffress. After a stolen base and a single, Blake Lalli lined a two-run double to the wall in right-center that put the Cubs ahead 9-7. Hernandez and Adrian Cardenas added RBI singles and Sappelt mixed in a sacrifice fly in the five-run inning that extended the Cubs lead to 12-7.

The Storm Chasers came back with two runs (one earned) against Alberto Cabrera in the bottom of the sixth inning and two runs (one earned) against Jeff Beliveau in the seventh to cut the Cubs' lead to 12-11. The Cubs committed a season-high four errors and Castillo was charged with a passed ball that led to four unearned runs in the game.
