WILMINGTON, DE - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, fell short in their attempt to sweep the Wilmington Blue Rocks Monday, dropping a 6-2 decision at Frawley Stadium.

Things got off on the right foot for the Pelicans with a leadoff double from Odubel Herrera to begin the game. The speedster scored two batters later on a sac fly from Brett Nicholas. Myrtle Beach did break through for a run in the sixth off Ridings without the benefit of a hit. Herrera walked and took second on a balk. Alberto then reached on a two base error by leftfielder Geulin Beltre, scoring Herrera to tie the game at two.

In the seventh, a one-out walk to Whit Merrifield turned into a run when the infielder scored on a single from Cheslor Cuthbert for a 3-2 lead. A Merrifield homer off Joe Van Meter in the eighth made it 6-2 after another run had already scored on a passed ball.

On the mound, Randol Rojas took a no-decision for the Pelicans, allowing two runs in six innings. He struck out a season high eight batters, including K'ing the side in the second and sixth.
