Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (July 9, 2012) - A rain delay in the seventh did not dampen the Dash momentum as Winston-Salem rallied for a 5-3 win over Lynchburg Monday night at BB&T Ballpark.
Winston-Salem (9-10, 53-35-1) singled five consecutive times to lead off the fifth inning, yielding four runs. Sanchez came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit an infield single to plate Ross Wilson. Miguel Gonzalez raced home to tie the game on a wild pitch. With runners on second and third Trayce Thompson smashed a single into left field to score Semien and Sanchez, giving the Dash a 5-3 lead.
Lynchburg (10-9, 49-40) scored in the first inning for the second straight night. The Hillcats put the first two batters of the game on base via walks before a two-run double by Tommy La Stella cracked the scoreboard. La Stella eventually came around to score to make it a 3-0 lead.
The Dash cut into the deficit with a run in the bottom of the first. Marcus Semien and Carlos Sanchez each singled to start the game, and with one out Dan Black singled home Semien to cut the lead to 3-1.
Winston starter Jake Petricka earned the win after he allowed just three runs in six innings of work. After the three runs in the first inning, Petricka gave up just two hits in his remaining five innings. The right-hander also matched his season high with eight strikeouts. Terance Marin threw three shutout innings in relief to pick up his fifth save.
The Dash have the day off Monday before beginning a four-game series Tuesday night in Myrtle Beach. Winston-Salem sends southpaw Blair Walters (1-2, 6.88 ERA) to the mound. The Pelicans counter with right-hander Luke Jackson (0-1, 6.60 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
