Round Rock Express News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Trent Oeltjen was 4-for-5 with four RBI in leading the Albuquerque Isotopes to an 8-2 victory over the Round Rock Express in Wednesday night's Pacific Coast League series opener at Isotopes Park. The Express (38-49) dropped their third straight game and were held to fewer than six runs for the 13th consecutive game. The Isotopes (49-38) knotted the season series at four games apiece with the win.
Oeltjen's two-out RBI single followed Tyler Henson's two-run double and capped a three-run second for the Isotopes, who have won seven of their last eight home games. After Round Rock pulled to within a run thanks to a Luis Martinez two-out, two-run single in the fourth, Oeltjen reached on a bunt single and later scored on Josh Fields' two-out single in the fifth. Oeltjen added an RBI double in the seventh and an RBI single in the eighth that capped the scoring.
Meanwhile, Albuquerque starter and former Express member Fernando Nieve (4-6) limited Round Rock to two runs on six hits and a walk over six innings with six walks. Cole St. Clair, Bret Montgomery and Scott Rice each worked a scoreless inning to preserve the win.
Express starter Zach Jackson (3-10) shouldered the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits and a walk with three strikeouts over six and one-third innings. Jackson, who tied an Express record with 13 wins last season, was provided with fewer than five runs of support for the 11th time in his 16 starts this season and fewer than three runs for the seventh time. Fabio Castillo surrendered a pair of runs over and inning and two-thirds on two hits and three walks with one strikeout; he also a bequeathed Jackson base-runner to score.
Martinez (2-for-4) and Guilder Rodriguez (2-for-3, walk) provided four of Round Rock's seven hits. Luis Hernandez, Yangervis Solarte and Brad Nelson each singled. Nelson snapped an 0-for-24 skid with his fourth-inning single, his first hit in seven games.
Fields, Henson and Tim Federowicz added a pair of hits each for the Isotopes, who tallied 12 knocks on the night. Fields and Henson had two RBI each, while Oeltjen, Henson and Brian Cavazos-Galvez all scored twice.
Round Rock and Albuquerque continue their five-game series Thursday with an 8:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at Isotopes Park. Right-hander Greg Reynolds (7-6, 4.81 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Will Savage (10-3, 5.38 ERA) is listed as the Isotopes' starter.
