Owlz 3-Hit Rockies in 12-2 Victory

July 1, 2012 - Pioneer League (PL) Orem Owlz

Gabriel Perez surrendered just two hits in five innings of work, and the Owlz bullpen combined for four innings of shutout baseball in a 12-2 Owlz win on Sunday afternoon.

It has become no secret that the key to the Owlz getting victories this season will be its pitching staff giving Tom Kotchman a solid effort.

This afternoon, Kotchman got a solid outing by Perez and a fantastic four innings from his bullpen.

Perez allowed one hit, a walk and threw three wild pitches in the 1st inning, but he recovered to strike out seven.

Garrett Bush ran into major trouble in the 6th, loading the bases with one out, but Robbie Powell made his Owlz debut a memorable one by inducing a double play to get out of the jam. Powell fired 1.2 perfect innings, while Aaron Sookee threw two hitless innings.

The pitching allowed the offense to take over this afternoon. The Owlz got at least one run in each of the first seven innings. Michael Snyder hit a solo home run and Wendell Soto blasted a 3-run home run in the win. Snyder's home run extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Caleb Bushyhead finished 3-for-3 with three runs and 1 RBI, reaching all five times up for the second time this week.

The Owlz are now one game back of Grand Junction and will finish up a 5-game homestand tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. There will be fireworks after the game to celebrate Independence Day. It will also be a Hebrew National 6-for-$36 night and kids can run the bases after the game.
