GREAT FALLS - The Great Falls Voyagers (7-7) staged a wild comeback against the Helena Brewers (4-10) on Sunday afternoon with a 9-7 win. The win was the largest Voyager comeback of the season.

It was the Voyagers who struck first as the scored four runs off Helena starter Leonard Lorenzo in the first inning. The squad was helped out by three Helena errors, the first of four in the game. The lead didn't last long though, as Cory McGinnis who needed only eleven pitches to finish the first inning, allowed one run in the second before a two-out error continued the inning and loaded the bases. Chris McFarland hit the next pitch to left for a grand slam, and Mike Garza later homered in the inning, and the Voyagers trailed 7-4 on six unearned runs.

Andrew Virgili entered the game in the third and set the tone for the rest of the contest. Virgili finished with four innings pitched, no runs, six strikeouts, and only two hits allowed. That allowed the Voyagers offense time to work as they rallied for three in the fourth to tie the game at 7-7.

The score remained tied into the seventh when Patrick Palmeiro stepped to the plate with one on and one out. Palmeiro, in just his second professional game, blasted a two-run home run to left field for his first pro hit and a 9-7 Voyager lead.

Joseph Dvorsky entered the game for the Voyagers to attempt a six-out save. Dvorsky never allowed the tying run to threaten and nailed down his first save of 2012.

The Voyagers head to Helena for two games to finish the first half series with the Brewers. They return homw to Centene Stadium on Wednesday night for the annual Voyagers' Fourth of July game. The game starts at 7 PM and is followed by a fireworks extravaganza. Tickets are still available at 452-5311 or gfvoyagers.com.
