Missoula PaddleHeads News Release
MISSOULA, MONT - The Missoula Osprey took advantage of a number of opportunities produced by their patience at the plate on Sunday at Ogren Park Allegiance Field, as well as some solid pitching, to score a 6-2 victory over the Billings Mustangs in front of 1,923 fans.
The Osprey (8-6) drew 11 walks in the win, and collected just five base hits in securing their fourth win in five games on their current seven-game homestand. Missoula, who is now 6-2 at home this season, pulled to within a game of Billings for first place in the Pioneer League North Division Standings.
Socrates Brito went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBIs and two stolen bases to pace the Osprey at the plate. Danny Pulfer added a pair of hits, while Jake Lamb chipped in with a hit and a RBI. Pedro Ruiz drew three of the 11 walks for the Osprey, including one with the bases loaded that came in a three-run rally in the bottom of the second inning.
Karl Triana (1-1) was the beneficiary of the early Osprey offensive outburst, nurturing the 5-1 lead the Missoula bats staked him to pick up his first win of the season in Missoula. In his five innings of work, Triana scattered five hits and two walks, plus struck out three batters while allowing just one run.
The other four innings on the mound belonged to the bullpen tandem of Mike Blake and Dexter Price. Blake pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing a run on two hits and two walks, while Price allowed just one hit in the final 2 1/3 innings, and collected a strikeout to finish off the win.
The Osprey and Mustangs will continue their four-game series on Monday at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. The Osprey will send right-hander Jared Ray to the mound, while the Mustangs will counter with right-hander Drew CIsco.
