Sacramento River Cats News Release
West Sacramento, Calif. - All but one River Cat reached base, but the team was unable to overcome an early deficit, losing to Salt Lake by a score of 10-3 on Thursday night at Raley Field.
Salt Lake carried its momentum from game one win into game two, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. The Bees would score five more times-once in the fourth and four times in the fifth-before the River Cats put a run on the board. The Cats scored twice in the fifth and once in the sixth, but were unable to complete the comeback, ultimately losing, 10-3.
Righty Brad Peacock gave up eight runs on eight hits and four walks with five strikeouts in four innings, increasing his ERA on the year to 6.63 and dropping his record to 6-5. The River Cats put together seven hits-all singles-and were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Salt Lake starter Brad Mills gave up two runs in 4.1 innings of work. Center fielder Kole Calhoun finished 3-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and his second home run of the series.
The loss gives the Cats their first three-game losing streak of the year. They hadn't lost more than two consecutive games since the end of the 2011 post-season.
The third and final game of the series will begin at 7:05 on Toyota Family Value Friday when River Cats RHP Travis Banwart (5-2, 4.29 ERA) takes on Bees RHP Matt Shoemaker (5-7, 5.72 ERA). Friday will also serve as Olympic Night at Raley Field, during which the River Cats will host Olympians and Paralympians from the Sacramento area, who will be greeting fans at the gates and signing autographs.
The current River Cats homestand culminates on July 3 for the team's Independence Celebration, where they will be hosting a pre-game BBQ at 5:00 p.m. The first 2,500 fans through the gate for the 6:35 p.m. game will receive an American flag courtesy of the U.S. Army, and Sutter Health will produce a Fireworks Extravaganza after the game.
