Des Moines, Iowa - Three Iowa Cubs (34-38) pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout as they sent the Oklahoma City RedHawks (46-35) out of town with a 7-0 loss before 12,483 at Principal Park Friday night.

One night after struggling to get clutch hits, the Cubs collected two runs on three straight hits in the first inning. Adrian Cardenas knocked an RBI double, stole third, and then was singled home by Josh Vitters to make it 2-0.

Following Vitters' single, RedHawks pitcher Paul Clemens settled in and retired 13 of the next 14 hitters he faced. Brett Jackson broke up the run with a single in the fifth, and after he stole second base, Jackson scored on Alfredo Amezaga's RBI single on the next pitch to push Iowa's lead to three runs.

Meanwhile, the RedHawks struggled to get anything going at the plate against Cubs pitcher Rodrigo Lopez. Over six innings, Lopez (2-3) allowed just three hits and had multiple runners on base once. He walked three and struck out two.

The Cubs began to pull away in the bottom of the sixth. They scored twice more to knock Clemens out of the game and take a 5-0 lead.

Clemens (8-7) lost for the third time in as many starts after allowing five runs and eight hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out four and walked one.

Josh Vitters capped the scoring with a two-run homer over the suites in left-center field in the seventh inning.

After going 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position Thursday night, the Cubs went 4-for-5 on Friday. The RedHawks were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position in the loss.

Esmailin Cardidad and Alberto Cabrera combined to hold the RedHawks scoreless over the final three frames to complete the Cubs fourth shutout of the season. It also marked the fifth time this year the RedHawks were blanked.

The RedHawks return to Oklahoma City to start a four-game series against the Memphis Redbirds beginning Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. For tickets, visit the box office on S. Mickey Mantle Drive, call (405) 218-1000, or order through okcredhawks.com.
