Frost Warms up Saints with Longball in 4-2 WinJune 23, 2012 - American Association (AA) St. Paul Saints
With the Saints trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth and having collected just four hits up to that point, two of them by Frost, Jim Rapoport singled to right field. That brought Frost to the plate. He hit a fly ball down the left field line that just snuck inside the pole and barely went over the 320 foot sign for a two-run homer, his second of the season, to give the Saints a 3-2 lead. Frost finished the night 3-4 with a homer, two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. The Pheasants went to their bullpen for the first time during the night, but that didn't make a difference. The first batter Thomas Heithoff faced was Willie Cabrera and he drilled a no doubter over the left-center field wall, his third of the season, to give the Saints a two run lead.
Saints starter Alberto Rolon, who entered the game with an 8.20 ERA, but was coming off of a solid start in his last outing, struggled in the first, but was incredible the rest of the way. In the first the Pheasants got back-to-back singles to start the game from Jonny Kaplan and Cory Morales to put runners at first and second. With one out, and runners at second and third, Cesar Nicolas drove in two with a single to give the Pheasants a 2-0 lead.
That was where it stayed until the seventh. The turning point in the game came in the top of the seventh inning when the Pheasants put the first two runners on with a single by Mark Shorey and a double from Jake Taylor. Rolon, however, wouldn't give an inch. With the infield drawn in Al Quintana grounded out to third which held the runners. Joe Anthonsen hit a grounder to first and Ronnie Bourquin cut down Shorey trying to score for the second out. Rolon struck out Kaplan to end the inning and pumped his fist in excitement.
That momentum enabled the Saints to get on the board in the bottom of the inning as Ole Sheldon led off with a single and with two outs Jose Hernandez doubled him home to make it 2-1.
The same two teams meet in the finale of the three game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. The Saints are TBA and the Pheasants send RHP Mark Michael (3-2, 5.29) to the mound. It is Shake Your Booty Day presented by Science Museum of Minnesota. The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB or in the ballpark on 87.9 FM.
