Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - Asheville looked to be simply the better team for a second consecutive night, as their execution offensively and defensively trumped Greenville, en route to a 6-3 win. With the victory, the Tourists "magic number" to clinching the Southern Division's first half crown is just one.

After a night to be forgotten against Asheville, the Greenville Drive(31-33) players laced up their cleats once again, seeking revenge against the Tourists (45-20). The season slowly creeping toward the final stretch, and playoff position being waged, the Drive were taking it one game at a time, just trying to break even in the win-loss column.

Right- hander Luis Diaz (0-3) took the mound as the starting pitcher, hoping to notch his first win of the 2012 campaign, after spending a considerable amount of time on the Disabled List. The game's initial inning left a lot to be desired for Greenville as Asheville took a quick four run lead. Asheville scored another run in the third inning, extending the lead to five runs.

Through four innings, the Greenville offensive output was reminiscent of the previous game, as they failed to score a run. In the middle of the third, the Drive hoped for a quick turnaround and went with Scott Swinson. The right-hander and the Drive didn't give up any runs the next three innings, but their offensive struggles continued as the score sat at 5-0 in Asheville's favor heading into the sixth inning.

After Swinson pitched four shutout innings in a row, Greenville finally made a dent in the scoreboard with a two run homer by Henry Ramos. This brought his total to three for the season, but more importantly it put Greenville back in contention for a comeback win.

After an impressive effort by Swinson, Greenville called upon right-hander Justin Erasmus to close out the game. Asheville's Taylor Featherston homered shortly thereafter, extending their lead to 6-2. The Drive scored again at the bottom of the eighth due to an error on an unearned run.

After holding the Tourists scoreless in the game's final inning, Greenville took the plate down by three runs for their final at bat of the game, but failed to push across anymore runs.

The Drive look to avoid the three-game sweep on Wednesday, with first pitch set for 7:05 PM from Fluor Field. Left-hander Henry Owens (6-2, 5.59 ERA) will toe the rubber for Greenville, while Asheville counters with right-hander Ben Alsup (7-1, 4.83 ERA).

During tomorrow's game, the Drive will celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of their original corporate partners, Spinx. For more information, or to book your "Playcation", call (864) 240-4500 or log onto GreenvilleDrive.com.
