Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - At the request of the Eastern League, the doubleheader originally scheduled for Saturday, June 23 between the Altoona Curve and Akron Aeros has been moved to Monday, August 27 at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The change became necessary due to a string of postponements and rescheduling that had the Aeros' potentially playing four doubleheaders in eight days. The Curve and Aeros will now play one nine-inning game at 6 p.m. on June 23 with the August 27 twinbill starting at 5:30 p.m.
Altoona and Akron were originally postponed due to inclement weather on April 11th at Peoples Natural Gas Field on the date of the two teams' regularly scheduled finale of a three-game series.
The June 23rd, nine-inning game's events include an appearance by the ZOOperstars on a Curve, Pa. Blue Out Saturday. The 23rd also features the Touch-A-Truck Event benefitting The Nehemiah Project at the ballpark. This first-time event in Curve, Pa. gives children a chance to see, hear, feel, and experience all of the fascinating trucks and equipment they see on the road every day including fire trucks, bulldozers, dump trucks, and more.
The postponed game will now be made up on Monday, August 27th with two seven-inning games beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Curve, Pa. That night, Pittsburgh Penguins forward James Neal will make an appearance at the ballpark presented by S&T Bank, Altoona Trackers, Advanced Chiropractic, and WTAJ-TV on a Mirror Monday.
The Curve return home to Peoples Natural Gas Field tonight, hosting the Trenton Thunder from Tuesday, June 12th through Thursday the 14th. The club has added a special promotion for the homestand in Thursday evening's Report Card Night. Any child in attendance showing an end-of-the-year report card from their school will receive a free Grandstand seat to that night's game against the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees.
The Trenton series opens with a Two-for-Tuesday presented by Atlantic Broadband followed by Wednesday night postgame fireworks on a WALY 4-Pack Wednesday. The middle game of three is also a Kids Club Day for all Galliker's Kids Club members as well as a Silver Steamers Club Game presented by Homewood at Martinsburg. Finally, the series concludes on Report Card Night which is also the first installment of the Curve's Summer Cruise Series presented by Nittany Travel in which the Curve honor the movies of Tom Cruise. Thursday's initial offering in the series is Mission: Impossible. Also on Thursday night, the first 500 fans ages 21 and over through the gates will receive a Curve Puzzle Cube. As always, the series finale is a Thirsty Thursday with $2 Miller Lite 16 oz. drafts and $1.50 regular-size (22 oz.) sodas all night long thanks to Rocky 104.9.
