McDade, Bailli Drive Home Runs in 3-2 Loss at Richmond

RICHMOND, VA - Mike McDade picked up his 37th RBI of the season and the Fisher Cats put the tying run at second base in the ninth inning, but the Richmond Flying Squirrels (30-34) held on to win the series opener, 3-2, at The Diamond. (30-34). The loss is the fifth straight for New Hampshire (22-40) as they open a six-game road trip to Richmond and Bowie.

After Richmond scored in the second inning on a home run against Deck McGuire (L; 2-8), the Fisher Cats tied the game in the top of the third. Ryan Goins led off the frame with a single before McDade doubled to left to tie the game at 1-1.

Richmond then scored the next two runs in the third and fourth innings, building a 3-1 lead against McGuire. The Fisher Cats righty, pitching in his hometown, lasted five innings, giving up all three runs on eight hits. He struck out five and walked two.

Andy Reichard (W; 1-2) stymied the Fisher Cats to the tune of one run in six innings of work. Daryl Maday retired the next six batters before Brett Bochy (Save, 7) came on in the ninth.

The final frame saw a lead-off walk to Brian Van Kirk by Bochy. Kenen Bailli followed with a long double to center field, plating Van Kirk to cut the deficit to 3-2. New Hampshire had a chance to potentially tie the game after Bailli's double, but the new outfielder was doubled up on a line out to center field, leading to a Gabe Jacobo strikeout to end the game.

The teams continue the series on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM at The Diamond. The Fisher Cats have yet to name a starting pitcher while the Flying Squirrels are slated to go with RHP Chris Heston (6-2, 0.98).
