Barnstormers left-hander John Halama was named the Atlantic League's Pitcher of the Month for May, it was announced today by the league office.
The award is based upon voting conducted among member teams.
The period, which began April 26, saw Halama go 3-2 with a 2.22 ERA in seven starts. He fired one complete game, a 5-2 win at Camden on May 17, that produced manager Butch Hobson's 1500th career victory. In Halama's league leading 48 2/3 innings, he yielded 46 hits but only nine walks. The Brooklyn native struck out 30.
In his first June start, Halama, 40, fired seven shutout innings in a 5-0 win over Sugar Land last Saturday. He currently leads the league in ERA at 1.94 and is tied for the lead with four victories.
"We're happy for John," said Hobson. "He's given us a really good start every time out, and his veteran presence has been a key to the success of our starting rotation."
The Lancaster Barnstormers are entering their eighth season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.
