Asheville Tourists News Release

Mother Nature tried her best but baseball was going to be played in Asheville Monday night. The Tourists held on late to win their series opener over the Greenville Drive 7-5; in a game where the first pitch wasn't thrown until just before 9:30pm.

Asheville took a 6-0 lead after five innings, but Greenville made it interesting by plating the games' next five runs. The T's scored an insurance run late and won their fifth straight overall.

Trevor Story drilled a solo Home Run in the third inning to begin the scoring and Asheville plated two more in the fourth. Ryan Casteel shot an RBI single into right and Rosell Herrera delivered with a sacrifice fly.

In the fifth, the Tourists struck for three runs. Harold Riggins smacked an RBI single and Brian Humphries drove a two-run double to the wall that scored Riggins and Sam Mende.

Ben Alsup (5-1, 4.96) pitched great for Asheville but found a little trouble in the sixth. The Drive rallied for three runs, all with two outs, and chased the Tourists starter from the game; but Ken Roberts struck out Keury De La Cruz to end the inning.

Greenville plated one more in the seventh, and another in the eighth to cut Asheville's lead to just one. In the bottom of the eighth, the Tourists played small ball and managed to score a big insurance run. Rosell Herrera singled home Taylor Featherston with one out and the T's turned the ball over to their closer with a 7-5 lead.

Jefri Hernandez allowed a lead-off single to Henry Ramos, but retired the next three batters to preserve the win and pick up his third save of the year.
