Racing Presidents to Spend Memorial Day Weekend in Chiefsville
May 21, 2012 - International League (IL) Syracuse Chiefs
Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, will be receiving some on-field help from their parent organization this weekend: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. The larger-than-life mascots, collectively known as the "Racing Presidents," are scheduled to make their 2012 Syracuse debut on Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27 during the Chiefs' games against the Columbus Clippers at Alliance Bank Stadium.
George, Tom, Abe, and Teddy will compete in a Syracuse version of the Presidents Race, a fan-favorite at all Nationals home games, during a to-be-determined inning break on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Racing Presidents, who previously appeared at Alliance Bank Stadium on May 12, 2010, will also be available to meet and greet with Chiefs fans before and during both games.
Regular Chiefs mascots Scooch and Pops will remain in Syracuse as well, according to Chiefs general manager John Simone, who denied rumors that the duo would be demoted to AA-Harrisburg for the weekend. Scooch declined through a translator to speak to media members Monday about the impending arrival of the Racing Presidents.
In celebration of Memorial Day, the first post-game fireworks show of the season will follow Sunday's 6:30pm contest between the Chiefs and Clippers. In addition, Chiefs players and coaches will wear special Stars & Stripes themed jerseys and hats for the game.
Tickets for all Syracuse Chiefs home games, can be purchased in person at the Chiefs ticket office at Alliance Bank Stadium, by calling 315-474-7833, or online at SyracuseChiefs.com.
