Reno Aces News Release

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-Reno's bid for a ninth-straight victory was cut short Saturday night, as the Aces dropped a 6-5 decision to the Nashville Sounds in a rain-shortened series opener at Herschel Greer Stadium.

Storms blanketed the area, and play was finally halted with the Aces trailing by a run through five-and-a-half innings. After a 49-minute delay, the game was called.

The Aces trailed early, but managed to battle back. After spotting Nashville a 6-0 lead, Reno rallied for five runs in the fourth inning, thanks to a two-run double for Josh Bell and a three-run homer off the bat of Ryan Wheeler. That cut the deficit to one, bur Reno ran out of opportunities to even the score.

Aces starter Joe Martinez (0-3) was pinned with the loss, allowing six runs-four earned-on six hits over all five innings. The win went to Sounds reliever Victor Garate (1-3), who worked two scoreless frames.

At the plate for Reno, Wheeler and Adam Eaton collected two hits apiece. Eaton's first-inning single extended his hitting streak to 14 games.

The Aces and Sounds will get back at it again on Sunday afternoon. RHP Charles Brewer (1-2, 6.75 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Nashville will counter with RHP Mike Fiers (0-2, 4.21 ERA). First pitch is set for 12:05 p.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or by visiting RenoAces.com.

Reno returns to Aces Ballpark on May 17 to kick-off an eight-game homestand. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
