Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ) - Cory Arbiso pitched a Trenton-career-high seven innings of one-run ball and Luke Murton and Cody Johnson clubbed back-to-back home runs as the Thunder defeated the Portland Sea Dogs, 5-1, Saturday night in front of 6,989 fans at Waterfront Park. Arbiso (1-0) allowed a run in the first, then pitched six straight scoreless innings.
The right-hander allowed four total hits, only two after the first inning and struck out two. He induced 12 groundouts in his seven innings of work. Kelvin Perez threw two scoreless innings to finish the win.
Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the sixth, Abraham Almonte walked against Portland starter Billy Buckner (1-3) and advanced to second on a groundout by Corban Joseph. Murton then hit a go-ahead two-run blast over the left field wall, his third of the season.
Cody Johnson followed with another mammoth long ball, his seventh of the season to make the score 3-1. The homer tied Johnson with teammate Melky Mesa for the league lead. Murton added a two-run double against reliever Caleb Clay in the seventh.
Murton drove in four runs and went 2-for-4 on the night. Portland was held to only four hits on the night by Arbiso and Perez with no player recording more than one.
