
The Senators Slip Past Akron 6-5

Saturday night in Akron, the Senators fell behind 3-1 but rallied and held on for a second straight win over Akron, 6-5. Kevin Pucetas led the way on Saturday with three nearly perfect innings in relief to earn his second win on the season. Harrisburg also found their hitting strokes for a second straight game, pounding out 14 hits in the win.
In the first inning with two outs, Tim Pahuta, Jesus Valdez and Destin Hood all had singles with Hood's driving in Pahuta giving the Sens a 1-0 lead. After Akron tallied three runs in the second off of Senators' starter Rob Gilliam, Harrisburg came right back with two run in the third to tie the game.
Tim Pahuta singled to drive in Jeff Kobernus, then with two outs, Sandy Leon singled to drive in Destin Hood to tie the game. Chris Rahl was thrown out at home on the same play to end the inning.
The Senators took a 5-3 lead in the fourth when Jeff Kobernus drove in Sean Nicol with a sacrifice fly and Jesus Valdez drove in Jose Lozada with a two-out single.
With Rob Gilliam on the mound, Akron loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning with no outs when Kevin Pucetas took over for Gilliam. Chun Chen greeted Pucetas with a single to left to score a run, but the second runner was thrown out at home on a perfect throw by Chris Rahl. Pucetas then finished the inning by inducing Adam Abraham to ground into an inning ending double-play.
Leading 5-4 into the eighth, the Sens scored an insurance in the eighth when Lozada singled to left to drive in Sandy Leon.
Chris Garcia pitched the ninth and allowed an unearned run before retiring the final out with the tying run at first on a fly ball to center field. Pucetas earned the win, moving to 2-1 on the season while Garcia picked up his fourth save.
Jesus Valdez and Jose Lozada both had three hits in the game while Sandy Leon and Tim Pahuta both chipped in with two.
The final game of the series is Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. with LH Mike Ballard on the mound for Harrisburg. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website or on all mobile devices through iHeart Radio beginning at 12:45 p.m.
