Cowgill, Donaldson Lead Cats Past Padres, 11-3

April 29, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) Sacramento River Cats

West Sacramento, Calif. - Collin Cowgill recorded three hits and scored three times for the River Cats Sunday afternoon, leading Sacramento to an 11-3 victory over the Tucson Padres in front of 9,512 fans at Raley Field.

After Tucson's scheduled starter Matt Palmer was a late scratch due to a blister on his throwing hand, the River Cats jumped all over spot starter Mark Pope (0-1) for seven runs over the game's first two innings. Josh Donaldson hit a three-run home run in the second, capping a five-run frame and staking the Cats a seven run lead.

Brad Peacock (2-1) would do the rest, holding Tucson to just one run on four hits in five innings of work. Peacock struck out a season-high-tying eight batters before turning the ball over to the Cats bullpen. Justin Souza and Fautino De Los Santos preserved the win, keeping the River Cats undefeated in series play and improved their record to 16-8 overall. Pope suffered the loss, allowing eight runs-four earned-in five innings of work.

The Cats pounded out 12 hits on the afternoon, led by Cowgill's three-hit effort. Donaldson finished one-for-four with three RBIs, while Grant Green and Brandon Hicks chipped in with two hits apiece..

Sacramento opens a four-game set against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Monday night at Raley Field. Monday's game-like all Monday home games throughout 2012-is a Seniors Eat Free Monday presented by Cache Creek Casino Resort. Left-hander Fabio Castro (1-1, 3.60 ERA) will take the ball for the Cats, while the Sky Sox will counter with RHP Rob Scahill (2-2, 7.11 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
