York Revolution News Release
The two-time defending Atlantic League champion York Revolution opened their title defense with a 3-2 victory on Opening Night over the expansion Sugar Land Skeeters, in front of 7,500 fans on-hand for the inaugural game at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, TX. The Revs will look to make it back-to-back victories with the second game of the season scheduled for 8:05 p.m. eastern, 7:05 p.m. central time on Friday night.
Scott Grimes crushed the third pitch of the season down the left field line and out of the stadium for a leadoff home run to start the season. It was the tenth first inning leadoff home run in Revs history, and the fourth hit by Grimes. It was the first in Revs history to occur on Opening Night.
Salvador Paniagua made it a 2-0 lead, launching the first pitch he saw for a home run to left field leading off the third.
Ben Harrison connected on the first home run in Skeeters history, a two-run shot to left-center in the bottom of the seventh, briefly tying the score at 2-2.
Chris Nowak broke the tie with a home run to left in the top of the eighth, the Revs' third of the night, providing York with the 3-2 win.
Adam Thomas pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and R.J. Rodriguez handled the ninth for his first save of the season.
Revs reliever Ricardo Gomez (1-0) earned the win, despite allowing Harrison's game-tying homer.
Corey Thurman tossed 3.1 scoreless innings, making his third consecutive Opening Night start for the Revs.
Yunior Novoa backed up Thurman, and logged six outs by retiring all five batters faced in relief, including an inning-ending double play to escape a first-and-third jam in the fourth.
Former Revs reliever Michael Nix (0-1) suffered the loss for Sugar Land, surrendering Nowak's home run in the eighth.
It was York's fourth consecutive Opening Night win, having won every season opener since the 2009 campaign.
Revs lefty Ryan Feierabend will oppose Sugar Land's Ryan McKeller in game two of the series on Friday night. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (search YorkRevs) beginning at 7:30 p.m. eastern with Darrell Henry on the call.
