Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT - Everett Silvertips goaltender Kent Simpson and overage defensemen Josh Caron and Brennan Yadlowski have hooked up with professional teams following the completion of their season with the Silvertips last week. Simpson has joined the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League, Caron has been assigned to the AHL's Houston Aeros and Yadlowski has signed a professional tryout agreement with the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL.
Simpson, 20, recently finished his fourth season with the Silvertips in 2011-12. The Edmonton, Alberta native, who was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, traveled to Rockford, Illinois on Friday to join Chicago's AHL affiliate. Simpson won 12 of his last 20 regular season starts for the Silvertips, posting a pair of shutouts and two four-game winning streaks down the stretch to help lead Everett into the playoffs. Despite facing the second-most shots of any WHL goaltender this season, he still managed a .909 saves percentage and 20 wins. He ranks second in Silvertips history in both wins and minutes played and is also tied for third in career shutouts.
Caron, 21, arrives in Houston tomorrow to end a second straight year with the top affiliate of the Minnesota Wild. He signed a free-agent NHL contract with the Wild after attending their training camp in 2010. The 6-4, 215-pound defender came to the Silvertips in a November 29 trade with Kamloops after spending parts of four seasons as a Blazer. In addition to his seven points (1g/6a) and 71 penalty minutes in 43 games with the 'Tips, Caron also served as an alternate captain for the last two months of the season and ranked among the league leaders in penalty minutes and fighting majors. Hailing from Campbell River, British Columbia he completed his WHL career with 22 points (3g/19a) and 446 PIMs in 171 games.
Yadlowski, 20, finished his five-year WHL career with two seasons as a Silvertip after being acquired from Lethbridge in an October 2010 trade. He served as an alternate captain for Everett during his final junior season, posting 24 points (4g/20a) and 91 penalty minutes in 59 games. The Edmonton, Alberta native played his 300th WHL game on December 28 and reached 100 career points against Victoria on March 10. He was also named the Silvertips' 2011-12 Community Relations Award winner. Yadlowski met the playoff-bound Eagles, who are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Winnipeg Jets, on the road over the weekend and could play in their first-round playoff series against the Stockton Thunder.
