Cleveland Monsters News Release
Four unanswered third-period goals propelled the Lake Erie Monsters (17-19-1-1) to a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over the Chicago Wolves (21-13-1-3) at Allstate Arena Saturday night; a win that snaps the Monsters four-game losing streak. The win was also the Monsters first ever at the home of the Chicago Wolves; a building in which Chicago had a 7-0-0-0 record all-time against the Monsters entering Saturday's contest.
Five different Monsters accounted for the goals and Trevor Cann picked up the win in net in his seventh straight start for the Monsters.
Jordan Schroeder opened the game's scoring with his ninth of the season when he received a centering pass from Michael Davies as he streaked up the right wing. Schroeder one-timed the pass by Cann to give Chicago a 1-0 lead at the 1:14 mark of the opening period.
Evan Brophey netted the equalizer for the Monsters at 8:28 of the first period when he tapped in a rebound from the top of the Chicago goal crease. Ryan Stoa and Mike Brennan assisted on Brophey's 11th goal of the season.
Chicago's Michael Davies scored a rebound goal of his own at 5:00 of the second period to once again give Chicago a one-goal lead. For Davies, the goal extended his goal scoring streak to three games.
Steve Reinprecht, a veteran of 663 NHL games, increased the Chicago lead to 3-1 when he took an outlet pass from Nolan Baumgartner following a Monsters turnover. Reinprecht streaked in on a clear breakaway, and sent the puck between the legs of Cann for a shorthanded tally.
Stoa corralled a bouncing puck in the slot area at 3:19 of the third period and unleashed a hard wrist shot to beat Wolves netminder Eddie Lack and pull the Monsters to within a goal. Stoa's eighth of the season was assisted by Dean Strong and Brophey.
Less than six minutes later, Patrick Bordeleau attempted to center a puck from behind the Chicago goal line, and the puck took a fortunate bounce off Lack's stick and between his legs to tie the game at 3-3. Zach Cohen and Dylan King assisted on Bordeleau's third of the season.
A lively rebound followed a Cameron Gaunce wrist shot from the point at the 13:09 mark of the third period, and Luke Walker was in the right place at the right time to tap in his fourth goal of the season; the eventual game-winning goal for the Monsters.
Hugh Jessiman sealed the win for the Monsters when he netted an emptynet goal - his team-best 18th of the season - with 30 seconds remaining. Patrick Rissmiller and Gaunce assisted on the game's final goal.
Cann stopped 29 of 32 shots in net for the Monsters, and his overall record improves to 9-14-0. Lack stopped 26 of 30 shots for Chicago; he is 9-9-3.
Up next for the Monsters: a road game in Milwaukee to finish out their current five-game stretch of dates away from Quicken Loans Arena. The puck drops on Sunday at 2:00 PM Eastern, and all the action can be heard live on AM 1220 WHKW.
