BRIDGEPORT, C.T. - Despite scoring a pair of second period power play goals the Binghamton Senators could not catch the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, falling 3-2 in a Sunday afternoon tilt at the Webster Bank Arena. The loss in Binghamton's fourth in a row.
Casey Cizikas and Rhett Rakhshani scored goals at 15:23 and 19:36 of the first period respectively to give the Sound Tigers a 2-0 edge over the B-Sens.
Brandon Gentile extended that lead to three as he scored his first professional goal at 5:04 of the second period.
The B-Sens responded as Corey Locke capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play, tipping in Stephane Da Costa's one-timer from the left circle at 14:11. Rob Klinkhammer added a power play goal of his own at 15:11 to bring the B-Sens within one. Locke drew the secondary assist on Klinkhammer's tally to earn his second point of the game.
Although the B-Sens would outshoot the Sound Tigers 14 to 6 in the final frame, netminder Anders Nilsson helped hold the Binghamton offense at bay. Nilsson made 34 saves in the game as he improved to 8-6-1.
Mike McKenna tended goal for Binghamton, making 28 saves as he fell to 10-12-0 on the season.
Binghamton ended the afternoon 2-for-4 on the power play. Bridgeport went 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
The B-Sens see action again Friday as they host the Hershey Bears in a 7:05 p.m. start. Tickets are $18.50 for side seating, $17.50 for end seating.
