San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage received third period goals from forwards Bracken Kearns and Greg Rallo to edge the Rockford IceHogs 2-1 on the Rampage's 10th Anniversary Night in front of 8,586 fans on Friday. The Rampage raised more than $40,000 to benefit Silver & Black Give Back and San Antonio Youth Hockey Association. Rampage team captain Nolan Yonkman's jersey raised a franchise-high $5,000.
The IceHogs struck first with a goal from right wing Ben Smith at the 19:46 mark of the opening frame. He was able to get his stick on a point shot from defenseman Joe Lavin and the deflected puck floated past Rampage backstop Dov Grumet-Morris. Smith's 12th marker of the season handed Rockford a 1-0 lead.
After a scoreless second, Kearns tied the game at 1-1 midway through the third stanza. He took a feed from forward Mark Cullen and ripped a shot over the blocker of IceHogs netminder Carter Hutton for his 11th goal of the season.
San Antonio took their first lead of the game with 6:29 remaining in the third. After center Scott Timmins' shot was stopped by Hutton, Rallo charged the net and put home the rebound with his ninth goal of the year to give the Rampage a 2-1 advantage.
Grumet-Morris turned aside 26 of the 27 IceHogs shots he faced for his seventh win of the season while Hutton made 29 saves on 31 Rampage attempts in the Rockford loss.
The Rampage (18-18-2-0) hit the ice again this Monday on Martin Luther King Day to host the Abbotsford Heat at 4 p.m. (CST) at the AT&T Center.
