Aeros Drop Game Two To Rock Cats, 4-3

AKRON, OH - The Akron Aeros dropped game two of a three-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats 4-3 Saturday at Canal Park

Right-handed pitcher Steve Wright suffered the loss for the Aeros lasting six innings, allowing four earned runs on nine hits, walking four and striking out three.

Left-handed pitcher Andrew Albers earned the win for New Britain pitching five innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits and striking out four while walking none. Left-hander Tyler Robertson recorded the last six outs to earn the save.

The Aeros (59-55) and Rock Cats (56-57) traded single runs in the first inning.

In the top of the third inning, the Rock Cats took a 2-1 lead on a Yangervis Solarte RBI single.

The Aeros answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, Raul Padron tripled and later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 2-2.

The Rock Cats retook the lead at 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning when Chris Herrmann scored on a double play.

Herrmann doubled home a run two innings later to make it 4-2.

The Aeros got a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but drew no closer as they fell to the Rock Cats.

In the Hall of Fame Games Competition Saturday night, the Jackson Polar Bears outlasted the Garfield Rams in a series of games featuring toys that have been inducted in the National Toy Hall of Fame. A $1,000 check was presented to Jackson High School for their general scholarship fund.

The Aeros and Rock Cats will play the rubber match of this three-game set on Sunday. Akron will give the ball to right-handed pitcher Austin Adams, who is 8-8 with a 3.88 ERA in 2011. He will face right-handed pitcher Bobby Lanigan, who is 6-8 with a 4.49 ERA this season. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. The game can be heard on Fox Sports 1350 AM or online at sportsradio1350.com.
