Polanco to Rehab at CCP on Thursday & FridayJuly 27, 2011 - International League (IL) - Lehigh Valley IronPigs Press Release
Tickets for all upcoming IronPigs games can be purchased in-person at Coca-Cola Park, by calling (610) 841-PIGS or online at ironpigsbaseball.com. Despite leading all of Minor League Baseball in average attendance in 2010 with 9,227 fans per game, prices for single-game tickets remain identical for the fourth consecutive season and start as low as $6 for General Admission, granting fans access to the Capital BlueCross Lawn seating area and standing room only areas. Field Level reserved seats are just $9.
Polanco, 35, was placed on the 15-day disabled listed on July 15 (retroactive to July 5), with back inflammation and a bulging disc. He was hitting .274 with four home runs and 39 RBI when he was placed on the D.L. He was voted the National League's starting third baseman for the All-Star Game but did not participate due to the injury.
The Phillies signed Polanco to a three-year contract on Dec. 3, 2009, returning him to Philadelphia for a second stint. He was originally acquired by the Phillies alongside RHP Mike Timlin and LHP Bud Smith in the blockbuster deal that sent 3B Scott Rolen to St. Louis on July 29, 2002. Polanco finished the 2010 season among the leaders in various N.L. categories including singles (2nd, 130), multi-hit games (T-6th, 51), road batting average (8th, .306) and batting average against right-handed pitchers (9th, .305). He also finished the season with the fewest errors (5) ever by a Phillies third baseman who played at least 120 games - a record previously held by Hall-of-Famer Mike Schmidt, who committed just six errors in 124 games in 1986.
Polanco is regarded as one of baseball's prized defenders and consistent hitters. His career fielding percentage at second base (.993) and third base (.981) are both best in Major League Baseball history at each position. He has routinely been one the hardest batters to strikeout in baseball over the last decade, ranking first in the category in the AL in both 2007 and 2008.
Polanco is also a two-time All-Star (2007, 2011), two-time American League Gold Glove winner (2007, 2009) and a 2007 Silver Slugger recipient. He was also named the ALCS MVP with Detroit in 2006 after hitting .529 (9-for-17) in a four-game sweep of the Oakland A's in guiding the Tigers to their first World Series berth since 1984.
Originally drafted by St. Louis in the 19th round of 1994, Polanco debuted with the Cardinals with 45 games in 1998. Over parts of 14 seasons, Polanco is a career .301 hitter in 1680 games with St Louis (1998-2002), Philadelphia (2002-05, 2010-11) and Detroit (2006-09).
Thursday's game features a special 11:05 a.m. start time for the IronPigs' annual Camp Day presented by K12.
