
Mets Score Season High 19 Runs, Beat Threshers

The St. Lucie Mets erupted for 19 runs on 20 hits in a 19-4 drubbing of the Clearwater Threshers Monday night at Digital Domain Park. The 19 run effort was the most runs the Mets have scored in a game all season. The 19-4 win puts the Mets at 14-9 on the second half of the season and 52-41 overall.
The Mets got all the runs they would need jumping all over Threshers starter Jarred Cosart for seven runs in the first inning. The Mets batted around with all but one batter failing to reach base. RBI singles by Jefry Marte, Cory Vaughn and Robbie Shields made it 3-0, an RBI double by Cesar Puello scored Stefan Welch and Francisco Pena drove in two to cap off the seven-run inning. St. Lucie struck again in the fourth inning. An RBI double by Wilmer Flores and two sacrifice flies gave the Mets a commanding 10-3 lead. The Mets were not done. Two more runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth made it a 15-3 game. Francisco Pena drove in Cory Vaughn with the Mets final run capping off the Mets scoring at 19 runs.
Every St. Lucie batter recorded a hit and scored in the game. Francisco Pena drove in four runs with three hits and a run scored to lead the Mets offensively. Juan Lagares had four hits to up his FSL leading average to .338. In his fourth rehab start with St. Lucie, David Wright went 3-for-6 and scored three times in the win but was the only St. Lucie hitter to not drive in a run. Stefan Welch and Jefry Marte chipped in each with two hits and three runs scored and Cesar Puello, Robbie Shields and Cory Vaughn each scored twice and knocked in two runs. Darin Gorski improved to 10-0 with the win allowing three runs in five innings. Estarlin Morel tossed a perfect eighth and ninth to close out the win.
The Mets continue their four-game series with the Clearwater Threshers Tuesday night at Digital Domain Park. Kyle Allen gets the start for the Mets. Allen comes into the game with a 3-5 record and 5.69 ERA in 17 appearances, 12 starts. Allen has recorded 49 strikouts and 42 walks while opposing batters are hitting .289 against him in 68 innings of work.
