Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Tyler Greene's two-run homer in the seventh inning was the difference maker as the Memphis Redbirds edged the Round Rock Express 3-1 in Friday night's Pacific Coast League action at The Dell Diamond. The Express (51-37) snapped a six-game home winning streak. The Redbirds (47-41) lead the season series three games to two.
Pete Kozma doubled with one out in the top of the seventh. Zach Jackson then got Jim Rapoport to ground out but fell behind 2-0 on Greene, who deposited his second homer of the season onto the left-field berm.
That made a winner of Mike Blazek (1-0), who held the Express to one run on four hits and four walks with five strikeouts over 6.0 innings in his first Triple-A start. Rich Rundles, Chuckie Fick and Victor Marte closed out the game for the Redbirds; Marte recorded his 16th save.
Neil Ramirez struck out six in a predetermined 3.0-inning start; he allowed one run on three hits and no walks. Jackson (6-3) was saddled with the loss, his first since June 6. He allowed two runs on six hits and a walk over 3.2 innings with two strikeouts. Ryan Tucker closed the game with 2.1 scoreless innings; he allowed one hit with two strikeouts and no walks.
Andrew Brown's one-out solo homer in the top of the second staked Memphis to the game's first lead. Round Rock knotted the score in the fifth inning. Matt Kata led off with a single and later scored on Esteban German's ground out.
The Express missed several opportunities, going 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Memphis also made use of three double plays, including two that ended innings.
Six Express players had one hit each. Joey Butler reached safely in all four plate appearances, singling once and walking three times. Greene and Brown both had two-hit games for the Redbirds.
Round Rock and Memphis continue their four-game series Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch. Right-hander Brett Tomko (4-3, 7.24 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Adam Ottavino (3-5, 3.91 ERA) is slated to go for the Redbirds.
NOTES: Julio Borbon left the game at the conclusion of the seventh inning with a left ankle injury. He was taken to St. David's Round Rock Medical Center for x-rays.
TRANSACTIONS: Right-hander Derek Hankins was placed on the seven-day disabled list prior to the game.
