Round Rock Express News Release
Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has placed infielder Andres Blanco on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to yesterday, with a stress reaction in his lower back. To take Blanco's spot on the 25-man roster, the club has purchased the contract of infielder Omar Quintanilla (#12, pronounced keen-tah-NEE-ah) from Triple-A Round Rock. To make room for Quintanilla on the 40-man roster, the club has transferred right-handed pitcher Scott Feldman from the 15- to the 60-day disabled list.
Additionally, right-handed pitcher Dave Bush has cleared unconditional release waivers and is now a free agent.
Blanco has batted .233 (14-60) with 2 home runs and 2 RBI in 24 games with Texas this season, including a current 6-game hit streak. He last played as a defensive replacement on Wednesday vs. Baltimore, and the first date he is eligible to be activated is July 22.
Quintanilla, 29, is a native of El Paso and played at the University of Texas. He has spent the entire season with Triple-A Round Rock, batting .298 (62-208) with 5 homers, 9 doubles, 4 triples, and 25 RBI in 51 contests. The left-handed batter has hit .408 (20-49) over his last 11 games, including a 6-hit, 4-RBI game on July 4 at Albuquerque. Quintanilla, who has played exclusively at shortstop in the Pacific Coast League, went 1-for-5 with an RBI in his last game with the Express last night vs. Memphis.
Quintanilla saw major league action in 5 straight seasons with Colorado from 2005-09, batting .220 (110-500) with 2 home runs and 32 RBI in 216 career games. His last big league contest was October 4, 2009 at Los Angeles. He has seen action in the majors at second base, shortstop, and third base.
Bush was placed on unconditional release waivers on Wednesday after being designated for assignment on July 1.
Feldman opened the season on the 15-day disabled list and continues to rehab from right knee surgery over the offseason. He is currently eligible to be activated.
With these moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
