Reno Aces News Release
TACOMA, Wash.- Tacoma tied the score in the seventh and pushed across the go-ahead run in the eighth Friday night, handing the Reno Aces a 3-2 loss at Cheney Stadium.
With the Aces clinging to a 2-1 lead in the seventh, Tacoma's Ryan Langerhans hit a two-out fly ball to center that Reno outfielder Collin Cowgill was unable to locate. The balled dropped in, chasing home the game-tying run from second base. In the eighth, Luis Jiminez advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch just before Matt Tuiasosopo doubled him home with the go-ahead run. Reno advanced the tying run to third base in the ninth, but the Aces failed to convert as the series evened at a game apiece.
The loss spoiled a quality start by Aces starter Gaby Hernandez, who scattered just a run on four hits over six innings, walking three and striking out five. The loss fell to Esmerling Vasquez (0-1), who surrendered the game-winning run in the eighth.
Rainiers starter Luke French worked six frames, allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and four punchouts. Scott Patterson (2-1) earned the win after tossing two scoreless innings.
At the plate for Reno, Tony Abreu led off the game with a home run and finished with two hits. Geoff Blum, playing for the Aces on a Major League rehabilitation assignment, singled, doubled, walked and scored a run.
The Aces and Rainiers will hit the third leg of this four-game series on Saturday night. RHP Armando Galarraga (0-2, 13.86 ERA) makes the start for Reno, while Tacoma will counter with RHP Jarrett Grube (0-1, 7.71 ERA). First pitch from Cheney Stadium is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or via www.RenoAces.com.
The Aces return home Thursday, July 14 for an eight-game homestand with Colorado Springs and Fresno. Tickets are available at RenoAces.com, the Aces Ballpark box office or by phone at (775) 334-7000. Discounted group tickets for your next event are available today.
