Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City RedHawks and Pacific Coast League have announced that outfielder J.B. Shuck will represent the team as a Pacific Coast League All-Star for 2011.
The 2011 Triple-A All-Star Game will be played on Wednesday July 13 at 8:00 p.m. CT from Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City, Utah, in a battle between the Pacific Coast League and International League All-Stars.
As of July 7, Shuck is batting .269 with 17 RBI, and has scored a team-best 39 runs scored. Shuck has collected 41 walks against 24 strikeouts, and has only one strikeout every 12.29 plate appearances, the fourth-best ratio in the Pacific Coast League.
The selection is the third career All-Star selection for Shuck, as he was honored by the Texas League (AA) in 2010 and the New York-Penn League (Short Season-A) in 2008.
Out of Galion, Ohio, Shuck was a sixth round selection in the 2008 draft by the Houston Astros out of Ohio State University. Shuck was a two-way player for the Buckeyes, posting a .356 (62x174) average and .432 on-base percentage along with a 4.29 ERA (31ER/65IP) in 11 starts on the mound during his junior year, his final season in Columbus.
In his previous three seasons as a professional (2008-10) Shuck has a career .303 batting average. Shuck has been tabbed by Baseball America as having the Astros organization's best strike-zone discipline in consecutive seasons (2010-11).
Shuck replaces relief pitcher David Carpenter, who was originally selected to represent the RedHawks but was promoted to the Houston Astros.
Television coverage of the 2011 Triple-A All-Star Game will be available on MLB Network, and local radio coverage will be available on AM 1340 The Game.
Tickets for the remaining home games at RedHawks Field at Bricktown are available through the RedHawks box office at (405) 218-1000 or online at www.okcredhawks.com.
