Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs allowed eight runs through four innings on Thursday night and could not overcome the deficit in a 10-4 loss to the Beloit Snappers. Peoria falls to 5-9 in the second half and 39-45 overall on the season.
The Chiefs got on the board in their first trip to the plate with an early run against right-hander B.J. Hermsen. With one out, Rubi Silva ripped a double down the right field line and Greg Rohan walked ahead of Richard Jones, who loaded the bases with a single up the middle. Ryan Cuneo put Peoria on top 1-0 with a RBI base hit to right that scored Silva. With runners at every base, Beloit escaped major damage as Elliot Soto grounded into a 5-4-3 to end the frame.
Beloit answered in the top of the second and took its first lead of the game against Chiefs' newcomer Frank Del Valle. Michael Gonzales drew a base on balls to begin the inning and moved to second on a balk before Lance Ray crushed a two-run shot to right. Ray's homer landed beyond the tables in the Pepsi Picnic Plaza and put Beloit ahead 2-1.
The Snappers added a pair of unearned runs in the top of the third against Del Valle. After Daniel Santana popped out to begin the inning, Adam Bryant swung at strike three but made it to first when the pitch bounced in the dirt and got away from Peoria catcher Sergio Burruel. Jairo Perez put two runners on with a base hit to center and Gonzales sent Bryant to third with a fly out to right. With two down, Tyler Grimes sent a grounder to Rohan, who made an errant throw allowing Bryant to score. Perez tacked on the final run of the inning when he scored on a wild pitch that made it 4-1.
The Chiefs used their first long ball in six days to trim the deficit to one in their half of the third inning. With one gone, Silva singled into right and remained at first until Jones smashed his team-leading 15th homer of the season over the right field wall for a 4-3 ballgame.
The Snappers used seven hits in the fourth to bat around and take a commanding lead against Chiefs' reliever Daniel Berlind. Andrew Leer and Jhonathan Arias began the inning with a pair of singles to the left side and Wang-Wei Lin became the third straight batter to reach with a RBI base hit to left that made it 5-3. With two on, Santana laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners into scoring position before Bryant singled home Arias. Perez added a run with a RBI double to deep center field and Gonzales followed with a RBI double of his own that extended Beloit's lead to 8-3.
Berlind exited the game after one inning and the Snappers tacked on a couple more runs against right-hander Alvaro Sosa in the fifth. For the second straight frame, Beloit's first three hitters reached as Arias walked, Lin singled and Santana drew a base on balls. With the bags full, Bryant lifted a RBI sac fly to deep left and Lin made it 10-3 in the next at-bat when he scored on a wild pitch.
After two and a half scoreless innings, Peoria notched the final run of the game in the eighth against Snappers' righty Michael Tonkin. With one out, Rohan knocked a double to the wall in right and Jones recorded his third RBI of the game with a base hit up the middle for a 10-4 final.

He walked one batter and recorded one strikeout. Sosa allowed two runs on two hits in two innings pitched. He walked three batters with no strikeouts. P.J.
