Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS-A three-run third inning proved to be enough as the M-Braves defeated the Lookouts 3-2, breaking a seven-game losing skid and a 12-game losing skid at Trustmark Park. Ernesto Mejia led the Braves' offense with two hits and three RBIs.
With the win, Mississippi improved to 6-17 in one-run games and 24-41 on the season. The Braves had three runs on nine hits and two errors while holding the Lookouts (32-33) to two runs on six hits and an error.
After a 39-minute wind delay prior to the game, Chattanooga took another early lead when Kyle Russell led off the top of the second with a double to right field and came in to score on a Jaime Pedroza single to center field.
Alfredo Silverio reached on a ground-rule double in the third and scored on a Brian Cavazos-Galvez single to extend Chattanooga's lead to 2-0.
The decisive third inning began with an Antoan Richardson bunt single. Tyler Pastornicky followed with an infield single, and Donell Linares reached on a two-out hit by pitch. Mejia then delivered a bases-clearing double to give the M-Braves a 3-2 lead.
Paul Clemens (5-3) picked up his team-leading fifth win of the season. He limited the Lookouts to two earned runs on five hits, a walk, and four strikeouts in six innings of work.
Benino Pruneda came on to work the final two frames of the night and notch his team-leading fifth save of the season. Richard Sullivan also worked a scoreless seventh to record his fourth hold of the season.
Michael Antonini (4-8) surrendered the loss, giving up all three runs on eight hits, two walks, and four strikeouts in six innings pitched.
After an off day Tuesday, the M-Braves travel to Jacksonville, FL, to take on the Suns in the final five-game series of the first half. Right-hander Arodys Vizcaino (1-1, 4.50) squares off against Suns' lefty Darin Downs (1-5, 6.19). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM CST.
