
Fife Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs' right-handed pitcher Stephen Fife has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 6ththrough June 12th.
The 24-year old, Fife, made one appearance for the Sea Dogs last week and had a record of 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 6.1 innings pitched. Fife, who is a native of Boise, Idaho, made his only start of the week on Tuesday night; June 7th at Hadlock Field against the Richmond Flying Squirrels (Giants) and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out seven batters over 6.1 shutout innings while leading Portland to a 6-0 victory. He did not allow a hit through the first six innings of the game and retired the first batter he faced in the top of the seventh before giving up a single to Justin Christian. With his performance the 6'3", 210 lb. hurler improved his record to 6-3 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.94, both team bests. He is currently tied for second in the league in wins and has allowed three runs or less eight of his 10 appearances for the Sea Dogs this season.
Fife, who was an Eastern League All-Star in 2010 posted an 8-6 record with a 4.75 ERA in 26 starts for the Sea Dogs last season. He was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the 2008 draft after going 7-5 with 78 strikeouts and a 3.72 ERA in 15 starts during his junior season at the University of Utah.
Fife previously was tabbed with Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors for the Eastern League's final week of the 2010 season; August 30th- September 6th when he posted a 2-0 record with a 1.64 ERA.
The award marks the second consecutive week that a Sea Dogs' player has been honored. Sea Dogs' outfielder Chih-Hsien Chiang was selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of May 30th through June 5th.
The Sea Dogs begin a six game road trip on Tuesday with stops in Erie, Pennsylvania and Akron, Ohio. The road trip kicks-off with a 7:05 PM game Tuesday night against the Erie SeaWolves (Tigers). The Sea Dogs will return to Hadlock Field on June 21st for a three game series with against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees). Tickets are available for all 2011 Sea Dogs' home games.
